“When Life Gets Tough, They Are There To Listen, To Support, To Ride”
Mental Health Motorbike is a free mental health support charity for the biker community in the UK.
The aim of Mental Health Motorbike is to create the country’s first free dedicated mental health support service for bikers by bikers, to improve the mental health and wellbeing of the motorcycling community and break the stigma that often causes the silence around mental health issues. Bikes are a great conversation starter..
Mental Health Motorbike train bikers to become Mental Health First Aiders (MHFAs), thereby increasing the level of knowledge and understanding around mental health issues within the biker community, helping bikers to support each other. They heavily subsidise these courses to make them affordable. You can find all the details and book a Mental Health First Aid course.
Their aim is to build a network of 1,000 trained MHFAs by the end of 2024. They want at least one of our MHFAs in every bike group and association, at every bike meet, in every biker café and restaurant, and in every dealership and retailer. The network Mental Health Motorbike is building is critical, and provides the necessary support to stop bikers falling through any gaps in the overstretched mental health system.
Mental Health Motorbike online peer support group looks after over 2,700 members and is accessible 24 hours a day with the support of a team of experienced moderators. When they identify someone who is in need of additional help, they can provide 1-2-1 support with a trained MHFA; a fellow biker who will help develop a plan of action, signposting them to appropriate professional health care if needed.
Most importantly, they stay with bikers as they go through their journey. In the same way a biker never leaves another at the side of the road following a mechanical breakdown, they will never abandon a biker who is feeling broken. Click here to join the Peer Support Group.
Mental Health Motorbike also attends many events throughout the year across the UK. They are there to raise awareness of what they do, to offer help and support to those who need it, and also to fundraise to allow them to run the charity and train more mental health first aiders. Please go and say hello if you see them!
If you'd like to find out more about Mental Health Motorbike, or are interested in running a fundraising event for them (most donations come from bike clubs and events) you can find out more on Mental Health Motorbike their website.
