Under Asian Skies

When Sam Manicom set off to spend a year riding the length of Africa on a motorcycle, he’d no idea if he would like travelling by bike, or whether he would survive; he’d been riding a bike for just three months. He learnt lessons the hard way – falling off hurts, and jail in Africa should be avoided at all costs.

In Sam’s first book Into Africa, his bike acted as the connecting factor between adventures. It got him into and out of trouble. It gave him time to himself when he was on ‘intake overload’ from life on the road. It gave him the freedom to explore on the spur of the moment, and to take advantage of opportunities as they presented themselves. Travel on two wheels took him from gentle mellow cruising days, to full-on adrenaline-packed adventure.

By the time he made it to Southern Africa, he was a motorcycle travel addict; he wanted more. It felt as if the journey had barely begun. On impulse Sam shipped across the Indian Ocean to Australia and headed for Asia.

Sam says, “There’s a magical, captivating, buzz about being on the road under Asian skies. I was constantly challenged by things I’d never dreamt could happen. The landscapes were simply incredible. Every day really was an adventure. This world of ours is amazing and motorcycling is a superb way to see it.”

This is a wonderfully descriptive story. At time scary and at others, laugh out loud funny. Three years riding under the skies of Australia, New Zealand and Asia.

Ted Simon ‘A unique and wonderful adventure.’
