What does it entail?
IAM RoadSmart, formerly the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM), is a UK charity which dates back to 1956 aimed at improving motoring and motorcycling driving/riding and thus road safety chiefly by using the police ‘IPSGA’ system (Information, Position, Speed, Gear, Acceleration) of vehicle control. Via a network of local groups, it offers advanced rider training and test certification.
How much does is cost?
Although all courses aim to make you an Advanced Rider there are a variety of schemes: the basic Advanced Rider course including test and IAM membership costs £215, but for existing car members its £168, test and membership only is £135, a four-hour 1:1 development session is £95 or just £85 for existing members.

From four hours for basic assessment. The full course typically includes 6-12 sessions with an observer.
